The idea of "no spoilers!" is pretty funny when you're talking about stories this ancient hahaha. But at the same time, this will be many, many peoples' first exposure to it! So no need to spoil that for people. Even though I read it in high school, I'd forgotten most of it. So the plot caught me by surprise quite a bit. (Also, much of the writing simply went over my head.)
I haven't seen it yet, but I thought the choice of Matt Damon was kind of odd. I've always enjoyed Matt Damon, but he was so good at Ripley (so was the other Ripley) that I almost can't watch him now without looking for that sly sneer.
Anyway, it would have been easy to go with a cheaper cast, so that's also an odd decision. These days, great acting talent is all over the place. There is so much of it in the various streamer TV shows that it almost feels like there's a bit of an acting renaissance taking place.
But you definitely haven't talked me out of seeing the movie. I'll get to it eventually!
My thoughts exactly! It really wouldn’t have taken much work to find an equally talented cast at a tenth the price. The amount of great new actors I discover each year is pretty mindblowing. In a Marvel movie, this kind of familiarity overload works. But it definitely felt at odds with what he was going for with The Odyssey.
Glad I didn’t talk you out of seeing it! It’s still very worth your time. One of the most exciting movies I’ve ever seen in theaters.
Hey Ben, thanks for the review. I agree with you.
The only time I enjoy an overload of movie stars is when it's a comedy and we can laugh at them.
I am looking forward to seeing the movie, so thanks for not putting spoilers in.
BUT WAIT, I already know the story. lol

Thanks for reading, Linda!
