You have written a well thought out piece. Were it possible to remove faith based religions from our world, I would do it. The world would be a better place. ❤️✌🏻
Hamas needs to be wiped out, and damage to Gazans and Palestinians needs to be kept to a minimum as possible. At the same time, those in Israel's government and military who allowed the Oct 7 security breaches to happen need to be investigated and dealt with because that should not have happened.
Never said it was easy. Low hanging fruit is investigating the Israeli failings for letting Oct 7 happen given the security wall was built to prevent such shit from even being a reality.
You make many thoughtful comments here and I agree
with most of it, but
I think many more are qualified for this level of discourse than just religious leaders or people who live there. The same is true for those who want to comment on politics in the US, Russia and China.
Also, I am beginning to see how racism, as much as religion, plays a part in ŧhe wars, and fear, greed and power mongering.
To deny there is genocide would be a very big mistake, tho. To allow it to go on is to invite a Holocaust. Remember "never again"? We are living the AGAIN again.
Here are my own thoughts on that. On one hand, it might sound like splititng hairs to say, "well, that's not *quite* genocide," because any way you look at it, what's taking place is an atrocity. It's certainly mass murder. But on the other hand, genocide is a word with such a colossal weight to it that I think it's useful to be able to distinguish from mass murder. If the goal were the outright elimination of an entire race, I think this war would have been conducted differently, and that the Israeli military would be doing to the West Bank what it is to Gaza. Mass murder is nothing to downplay. I hope Netanyahu faces real accountability for his crimes. But I don't see that what the Israeli military is doing as tantamount to Hitler in his attempt to make sure that the Jews were systematically wiped of the face of the earth in the hopes of installing a master race.
Netanyahu has only just begun. He targets the Palestinian civilians, knowing they are not HAMAS terrorists. He has displaced Palestinians. He has been killing them for years before HAMAS attacked. As you pick your way through defining genocide, they are committing it.
I hope you’re one of the people who’s able to grapple with the difference in scope between the holocaust and what’s taking place in Gaza. It can be unjustified without warranting that specific comparison. There are few events in history that truly do. I know you mean no offense, but for those who lost people in the holocaust, the comparison is offensive. I don’t believe they’ll accomplish the goal they have in mind, but what most Israelis want from this conflict is the elimination of the belief that being born Jewish is a crime worthy of extermination.
I want who already declared this genocide to keep it from becoming one. You can choose to be offended or not. I belong to a group of Jews who have already called this genocide and who recognize the horror. I'm with them.
And I think we've worn ŧhis
out, so, respectfully I'm done Ben. Thanks for the discussion.
PS There will always be those who are offended by what I say. You too. That should not stop us from saying what we believe.

Thanks so much for reading, Elizabeth!

Agreed on all counts. I just wish that goal weren’t such an impossible tight rope walk. Thanks for reading!
