Agreed but Trump's antics are really causing problems in Canada by making our recession even worse and encouraging Albertan separatism

Thanks so much for the offer! Here's a link to my buymeacoffee: https://ko-fi.com/benulansey I'm fairly sure I set up a Paypal account for donations a while back as well, but I'm struggling to find it at the moment. It probably would be smart for me to include that option for people as well. Thanks for the push!

I completely agree.

I hate seeing the word “resistance”,for example, because that was such a lie. Some in the so called “rebel alliance” were too lazy or precious to choose the best one of the two choices.

As someone who encouraged my children to avoid slang, I too tend to ignore those who are intellectually lazy, and use one of the euphemisms assigned to Trump, when just saying Trump conjures up all of the loathsome images one can imagine.

"Concessions?" Are you nuts? These people want to burn down the US? You cannot reason with morons.

There’s no overstating the scope of Trump’s misinformation campaign. Sure, there are morons and racists who voted for him. But there are also huge swaths of people who were manipulated into voting for him. I know people who voted for both Obama and Biden before getting pulled down the rabbit hole. A whole social media platform was purchased in order to insure that Trump could control the narrative leading up to the election. The conditions were unprecedented.

Good article Ben. It can be very satisfying for the writer to rant and rage and throw expletives, but if the aim is to get people to leave the cult I agree that it is not the most effective approach. It may even provoke and make things worse.

So well done for a calm and nuanced reflection on this. It is really difficult to know how to balance some resistance with the need to keep calm and carry on but I think your article explores this well.

Thanks for writing this Ben. When my anger and disgust doesn't prevail and I try to invoke my better braver angels, I try to practice compassion, firstly to myself. There are days when I struggle to do even that. For me, I can practice compassion and look at hard truths of injustice at the same time. Exactly what I needed in this moment.
