Well done! Great article, Ben. You did two things I appreciate: (1) making the Hitler analogy work, and (2) quoting the amazing Ben NoPockets Slater.

As a fellow pacifist, he was ahead of his time. I remember crying with joy the day Bin Laden was assassinated, then feeling REALLY gross like 6 months after.

I remember some people practically jumping for joy. I was fairly indifferent to the announcement, but it certainly didn’t upset me. Then, I was only five when 9/11 happened. What strikes me most about that memory is feeling like, “Isn’t this a pretty normal day of news? Every day I see adults watching the TV as newscasters talk about gunshots and murder—why’s everyone so upset?”

Totally fair! It was a huge moment for the adults, though. Haha. I also think i liked it because it helped make Obama look like a badass doing something Bush failed to do. And everyone I knew felt it. I remember Obama’s reelection campaign being “Bin Laden is dead and GM is alive.” That’s also when Dems had good messaging!

Okay, that was pretty badass ngl hahaha. That photo will forever be iconic. Have you seen the picture of The Rock watching Black Adam with the Warner Bros. executives? It hilariously echoes the Osama killing. https://www.reddit.com/r/okbuddycinephile/comments/1mcp6cb/bro_really_tried_to_turn_it_into_the_rock_verse/

Thanks as always for reading, Kathy! It's very interesting just how much there's been to say about Kirk. I wrongly assumed at first that the story would probably die out after just a few days given our current political climate.
