I never went to any of my reunions, Ben. It’s great that you had that experience. I have always appreciated the short musical “Is there Life after High School?” It’s not like a Disney Rah Rah thing, it explores different character’s perspectives. I think you’d appreciate it. There are two playlists on YouTube. I’ll try to link to one of them. If it works I can link to the other which is a series of song clips from different productions, but filmed live. Don’t feel compelled to listen, but I think you’d appreciate might relate also. Each song is short.
I listened to a couple of them and I can definitely see why you'd recommend them! Thanks so much for sharing. You're right that it's much more thoughtful than I'd expect of Disney/High School Musical.
Do you ever regret not going to reunions? Or do you feel you're best keeping your distance from most of the people you grew up with?
I’m glad you checked out the link, Ben. There is a certain poignancy to each selection; the songs bring out the characters as they were in high school and how their lives were affected by their experiences. It’s a great lesson in character development for a writer.
No, I never regretted not going to a reunion. I got along well with just about everyone in my class, but life moved on quickly and you really can’t go home again. There were a lot of cliques in high school, and although I had people I liked in each of them, I never joined them — the drinkers, the jocks, the stoners—no, no regrets.
My elementary and high school years were kind of miserable because I was one of the class outcasts. In fact, I was probably the head outcast! I finally started to connect with people when I got to college, and it was a lifetime project.
I'm sorry to hear that! I'd love to tell you that you might be surprised by what would happen if you connected with some of the people who were less kind to you, but maybe us Cheltenham residents really are unique in growing up around so many people we'd want to spend our time with anyway. Maybe you're best off going your separate ways!
Thanks as always for reading and for the support, Kathy.
I have connected with old classmates on Facebook, and they are now accepting of me, mostly, which is great. Nobody seems to remember how it was back then.

You're right, Ben. Diversity at that level is a rare and wonderful bird.
Nice to hear about it!
Thanks as always for reading, Linda!!
