Midnight Mass was incredible, and for the US right now it is even more timely than when it originally dropped on Netflix. For any of the well-meaning people who are opposed to the Project 2025 Empire but still confused and baffled (rather than angry but unsurprised - the group I am in) asking, "How? Why? HOW can red hats do this and believe they still the good guys - even after ALL THESE LINES CROSSED???", they'll get the awful but true answer after watching Midnight Mass from beginning to end, every episode in order, if they are smart and willing enough to see the symbolism. There were so many great performances, but the one that constantly dropped my jaw was Hamish Linklater. The only things I had seen him up until this point were secondary funny characters on sitcoms, and he was silly and enjoyable. But in Midnight Mass every second of his performance is a level of art I was completely not expecting - beyond masterful.

It’s so shocking that I haven’t seen him in more! He absolutely carried the show. I completely agree. About that and the timeliness. It’s hard for me to imagine watching this as a Trump supporter and not seeing the symbolism!

There's another serious series he was in called Tell Me Your Secrets. It wasn't as groundbreaking as Midnight Mass, but it was still very good. And his performance there was also stunning.

I love Mike Flanagan‘s horror movies and have watched them all multiple times, except for Midnight Mass. The end was too much for me. I’m glad that the excessively gross scenes of the leading characters’ demise was at the very end.

So you like Bly Manor and Midnight Club more than Midnight Mass? I really like the ending actually! I thought it worked well. The spiritual monologue at the end, too, is incredible.

I’m into ghost stories, but do not enjoy gore.

I am disappointed that you mentioned the spoiler concerning vampires. I was going to watch the show starting tonight and your revelation ruined some of the surprise in the show.

There are times when I think that it’s not fair to really talk about the twists in a show or movie (for example, the end of The Sixth Sense), but sometimes it’s hard to discuss a show without getting into at least some light spoilers. Mentioning that vampires are a subject I don’t think is really more of a spoiler than saying that it contains horror elements, personally. From the first episode it’s pretty clear something vampiric is taking place. The big twists I’ve still left for viewers. It’s definitely worth your time!

The reason for my mild complaint was that I have been a long-time aficionado of the supernatural genre, and have become totally bored with the subject of vampires. After reading your original post on “Midnight Mass “, I was intrigued and read reviews for it. Not one of the reviews mentioned vampires. Because of this (your article), I am now not as interested to watch the show.

I’m actually in the same camp. A lot of what I valued about the show was the way it defied so much of what I’ve come to expect of that genre. Prior to last year, I’d never really seen anything that addressed the subject of vampirism in a way that pulled me in. Midnight Mass, Sinners, and Nosferatu were the first to really convince me there might still be some juice left in the material. Although Nosferatu was a bit too formulaic for me to fall in love with, I’ll admit. But if you’ve traditionally been bored with the genre, Midnight Mass might be the first one that’s really worth your time!

I've seen all of his films and Midnight Mass is one of my favorites, next to The Haunting of Bly Manor--I still get the heebie jeebies from that one.
